One thing you can do now is set up a 'Tag Action' on a tag and put it to 'Create a Task' or 'Create an Appointment'. When you assign that tag then a task or appointment is created from the current message, plus the same set of tags applied.

It's common to see a tag like 'ToDo' placed on the 'Tag Bar', as that way you can create a quick task on the message with a single click/keypress.
