Getting Started is Easy

While Taglocity 3 for Outlook includes many features that provide immediate productivity benefits, it also provides a framework for you to establish better inbox management practices over time. Everyone has their own way of processing email and Taglocity does not force you to do it one specific way.

Example

For example, some people keep everything in their inbox; others like to keep their inbox as empty as possible by processing incoming email as it arrives. They either delete it after reading it, move it to one of usually around 70 folders for archiving, or into a holding folder for further action. Yet others are 'spring cleaners' where their inbox becomes cluttered over days, weeks, or months, until they can't stand it any longer so they do mass purging and archiving.

We recommend visiting our online best practices page, and reading this section to get ideas on how Taglocity can best work for you.

Starting Taglocity for the First Time

30 day Professional Edition Trial

The Professional Edition features are automatically unlocked for 30 days when you install Taglocity for the first time. After that you can either purchase a Taglocity Professional Edition license or continue using the free Standard Edition.

About Taglocity Professional Edition

Taglocity Professional Edition gives you:

control over Tagline text (in the footer of outgoing emails that have public tags)
status updating directly to TeamFeed and Twitter
tag synchronization across multiple computers
optional online tags backup

A single license can be installed on as many computers are you use. Find out how to purchase a license.

Common Tags and Actions

The first time you start Taglocity, a Welcome window opens with several helpful links and a Start with common tags and actions checkbox to create common tags and actions. We recommend accepting the suggested tags and actions to give you a generic collection of tags that you can add to or delete from whenever you like. This checkbox is checked by default. If you want to skip this feature, simply uncheck it. If you change your mind, you can access it later via Taglocity Configuration. Otherwise simply create tags as you need them.

Create a free TeamFeed Account

Consider creating a free TeamFeed account. Taglocity is integrated with TeamFeed, a group inbox service with benefits: Share emails, unlock knowledge from personal inboxes, update statuses (like a private Twitter), reduce 'office spam', and automatically share tags. See TeamFeed to find out more.

The quickest and easiest way to create a free account is to click on the Try TeamFeed for free!  Create a free account (recommended)... link in the Welcome to Taglocity 3 or Trail Information dialog boxes that open at startup during the trial period. Or create one online here: TeamFeed,

Once you have created an account, you can tell Taglocity to sign you in automatically upon startup.

Note  Taglocity uses your free TeamFeed account for Roaming Configuration, a Professional Edition feature that automatically synchronizes tags and settings for people who use Outlook on more than one computer.

Change the default layout after installation (with Outlook Reading Pane on Right)

Before: This is what your Outlook might look like immediately after installation - it needs tweaking because the email list is too narrow (see tips in red):

After: Some quick resizing widens the email list so you can use the Contact Bar and embedded Tagger nicely together:

Change the default layout after installation (with Outlook Reading Pane on Bottom)

Before: This is what your Outlook might look like immediately after installation - it needs tweaking because the email list is too short and the Contact Bar is squished (see tips in red):

After: Resizing the Tagger and collapsing the Contact and Chart sections of the Contact Bar makes the interface more useable:

Tip  Consider replacing the Outlook Reading Pane above with the Taglocity Conversation Reader (or jump to Setup Your Workspace for other ideas about setting up your Outlook interface).

Some things to try

A note about tagging

One of the most powerful features of Taglocity is tagging but this doesn't mean you should spend too much time tagging all your old email (although there is a tool to help you do this if you want to). The purpose of tagging is to provide a better organization system for archiving, and then improving your odds of finding things later very quickly (via Tag Filter, Taglocity Search, and Windows Search too). You can ease into using tags and sooner or later you will begin to wonder how you ever got by without them! Jump to Tagging for more information and tips.
